The Playbook Never Changes: Trump's New Attack on Georgia's Senators

July 19, 2026  ·  Apparel With Purpose ATL

Here we go again.

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, President Donald Trump will deliver a primetime national address promising to reveal "newly declassified intelligence" about the 2020 election — including claims about voting machine vulnerabilities and foreign interference.

Ahead of the speech, reports indicate Trump plans to assert that Georgia's two Democratic senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, were not legitimately elected. The same claim he has made about the 2020 presidential race. The same claim that has been investigated, litigated, recounted, audited, and debunked — again and again and again.

This is not new. This is a pattern. And understanding the pattern is the only way to see what's actually happening.

The 2020 Claims: Proven False at Every Level

After losing the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and his allies filed more than 60 lawsuits challenging the results in state and federal courts. They lost virtually all of them. Judges appointed by both Democratic and Republican administrations — including judges Trump himself appointed — dismissed the claims for lack of evidence.

In Georgia specifically, the results were counted three separate times. A machine recount. A hand-count audit. A second machine recount requested by the Trump campaign. All three affirmed the same outcome: Joe Biden won Georgia's electoral votes. The margin was approximately 12,000 votes out of nearly 5 million cast.

Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — a member of Trump's own party — certified the results. His office investigated every credible allegation of fraud. In a January 2021 phone call that later became central to a criminal investigation, Trump asked Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes" to overturn the result. Raffensperger refused.

The Georgia State Election Board investigated Fulton County's handling of the election and found isolated procedural errors — the kind that happen in every election — but concluded in 2024 that these findings "do not affect the accuracy of the results of the 2020 General Election in Fulton County."

A 2022 state report found that hand-count discrepancies between ballots and machine totals amounted to just 0.1053% in votes cast and 0.0099% in the margin — well within expected variance for a hand audit of 5 million ballots, and not nearly enough to change the outcome.

"Trump's effort to cast doubt on his 2020 loss with claims of widespread fraud has failed again and again."

The FBI Raid Based on Debunked Claims

In January 2026, the FBI — under Trump's administration — executed a search warrant at Fulton County's election hub, seizing over 650 boxes of ballots and election materials from 2020.

An NPR review of the FBI affidavit found that it relied on claims that had already been investigated and debunked by Georgia state authorities. The affidavit omitted key findings from prior state investigations — including the conclusion that alleged "deficiencies" did not affect the accuracy of the 2020 results.

One of the complaint filers whose allegations appear in the affidavit, Joe Rossi, had previously been found by state investigators to have "used incorrect calculations and records not involved in tallying results" to make his claims.

David Becker, a former Justice Department official and executive director of the Center for Election Information & Research, reviewed the affidavit. "After more than five years, dozens of court cases, and over a year in total control of the federal government, this is all they've got? If taken at its word, this entire affidavit at most alleges human error after a late night during a global pandemic, all of which had no impact on the outcome of the race."

Most revealing: the FBI investigation was initiated by a referral from Kurt Olsen, Trump's Director of Election Security and Integrity. Olsen played an integral role in Trump's original failed efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The person now in charge of "election security" for the federal government was a key figure in the original attempt to overturn it.

"These accusations have already been debunked, but here we go again on a merry-go-round."

The Pattern: Undermining Elections He Doesn't Win

This is what a pattern looks like. Not one election. Not one claim. A repeated, systematic effort to delegitimize any election result that does not favor Donald Trump.

2020

Trump lost the presidential election. He claimed fraud. He filed 60+ lawsuits. He lost them. He pressured Georgia's secretary of state to "find" votes. He attempted to interfere with the certification of results. He incited a rally that became an attack on the U.S. Capitol. The courts, state election officials, and his own attorney general all confirmed: there was no widespread fraud.

2021

Trump turned the same playbook on the Georgia Senate runoffs. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock both won their races — giving Democrats control of the Senate. Trump immediately suggested these races were also tainted, though he provided no evidence and the results were certified by the same Republican election officials who had certified the presidential results weeks earlier.

2024

Trump won the presidential election. He raised no claims of fraud. He raised no concerns about voting machines. He raised no questions about election integrity. The same systems, the same machines, the same processes that he called corrupt in 2020 were — the moment they produced a result he liked — perfectly legitimate.

2026

With midterm elections approaching and his approval ratings sliding, Trump is preparing to "reheat" the 2020 claims once again. The scheduled Thursday national address will reportedly assert voting machine vulnerabilities and foreign interference. The FBI has already raided Fulton County based on an affidavit that NPR found relied on debunked claims. The administration has removed leadership from the Election Assistance Commission — the federal body that certifies voting systems. Trump has publicly suggested Republicans should "nationalize" or "take over" the 2026 midterm elections.

The Campaign Legal Center warned in May 2026 that "the Trump administration and its allies have intensified a sweeping campaign to erode the safeguards" of the electoral system. Just Security noted that "the 2026 midterms will be a stress test for whether election outcomes are determined by the will of the voters or by who controls the levers of power."

The pattern is this: elections Trump wins are legitimate. Elections Trump loses are rigged. Every time. Without exception. Without evidence.

What's Actually at Stake in Georgia

Senators Ossoff and Warnock won their seats in January 2021 runoff elections. Those elections were certified by Georgia's Republican secretary of state. They were conducted on the same voting systems used in the 2020 general election — systems that Trump's own Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency called "the most secure in American history."

Ossoff won by a margin of approximately 55,000 votes. Warnock won by approximately 93,000 votes. Both margins were verified through the same certification process every Georgia election undergoes.

There has never been evidence of fraud in either race. There has never been a successful legal challenge to either result. There has been no recount that changed the outcome. The claims Trump is now preparing to revive about these senators are not new allegations — they are the same claims, made by the same people, already rejected by the same institutions that rejected them five years ago.

Ossoff responded directly: "Donald Trump's spiral continues. The failed president, pocketing billions as he drives up prices, is afraid to lose the midterms."

"From the start, Trump's obsession with Georgia elections revealed his fury that Black voters were instrumental to his defeat."

— Senator Jon Ossoff

The Question for Every American

This is not about one election. It is not about one state. It is not about one party.

It is about whether the United States remains a country where elections are decided by voters — or by whoever holds power when the votes are counted.

A president who claims every election he loses was stolen is not defending election integrity. He is attacking the very concept that elections have legitimate outcomes at all.

A president who uses the FBI to raid election offices based on debunked claims — and places the lawyer who helped try to overturn the last election in charge of investigating it — is not seeking truth. He is manufacturing justification.

A president who says elections are secure when he wins and rigged when he loses is not a president who believes in democracy. He is a president who believes in power.

The Founders wrote the Constitution for exactly this moment. They had lived under a king who claimed the right to override any result he didn't like. They built a system designed to prevent anyone from doing that again.

The question now — in Georgia, in 2026, and in every election to come — is whether we still believe in that system. And whether enough of us are willing to defend it.
